Life of Pi Theme

There are a few chapters in Life of Pi that describe religious views.  The theme existent in those chapters is the various kinds of religious views, secular and faithful.  I find that a secular view on religion is favoured by some people since religion can be a fascinating topic for them and not necessaily a belief.  One may be interested in the Ancient Egyptians, but wouldn't necessarily want to live their life style and their culture.  A secular perspective may be like this.  A faithful view on religion commits one to only one point of view, in a way chaining their freedom to think in different ways.  In some cases, this is a bad thing.  Consider a young boy raised in an Orthodox church.  His parents may raise him in this kind of way without the opinion of the young boy since they may think it is the best thing for him.  This strips the young boy of his voice and he is indoctrinated.  The best approach is to have an open mind in regards to your faithful religious views and give thought to it, explore the various religions, and come to your religious conclusion.  Base your religion on what you feel is right rather than what people tell you.
