At the start of the school year, we had a brief introduction about Mr. Forsyth and he thought we were grade 11's and that was funny. After that we had a student teacher and she gave us our first assignment of the year which is the memoir assignment. When she left, Mr. Forsyth finally had the chance to introduce about himself fully. Mr. Forsyth told us many important skills to have: one of them was to have a good reading skill (memorize the sentence and say it aloud). Another is to not worry about your credentials too much, but you need to work on developing your skills and concepts. Next, he gave us our second assignment which is step one on a two-step process. We had to do an annotated bibliography which we first had to find a topic and find at least five sources and summarize what the source had to offer. Next for step two, we did our research paper and we found it was much easier to do once we did the annotated bibliography because we had already done our research. We did our novel study and we read Life of Pi by Yann Martel for the remaining months. At the middle of May, we watched Julius Caesar and doing parts of the movie, Mr. Forsyth stopped it so we could analyze what just happened in the movie. After the movie, we got introduced to what we will be doing for our culminating activity and we had to pick one of the themes in Life of Pi and make a video of it. We also had to do a poetry presentation in front of the class. Doing the time Mr. Forsyth was teaching, he introduced us to these "Monday Activity Days" where as we would do the activities he gave us and Mr. Forsyth would simply leave us alone to do our business. In my opinion, I think the English course was a great success! Some things that were a success were that the activities everyone seemed to enjoyed. Also the blog is an excellent way of communication.
