What can we do to prevent and reduce school crime?

School crime can be anything from stealing a small item to massive massacres that can ruin the reputation fo the school and community. In this essay through relying on work done by other researchers I will see if there is a perfect system that can prevent school violence and prevent large incidents from happening. To find my information I will use the work of past researchers to arrive at a carefully evaluated conclusion. There will be 5 reports that i will be using in the following few paragraphs all from various journals stated in the bibliography..

There has been no perfect system yet but this journals write about the relationship between student academic achievement and school discipline problems. In order to get their information they use a wide variety of surveys to prove their point. It says that use the correct instructional methods and creating a sound classroom environment can reduce the possibility of school crime. Judging from their research it seems that relationships outside of school can be very important in keeping the school safe as well.

Currently the only way to report on students is simply talking about them to the people that handle these matters. In this report researchers describe in this report how office discipline referrals can help make schools safer. They used existing research reports for their information and say that through the amount of options that referrals offer they can effectively assess and monitor a student's behavior patterns and are able to give accurate predictions of who will most likely cause trouble.

In this research paper written by a group of researchers in 1999 show a variety of ways that schools can prevent violence. Through observing school safety systems and their effectiveness they state that the most important thing in preventing violence is the parents intervention and dumb luck. They state that if parents can notice that their kid have problems that may lead to violence their intervention may possibly be the best waste to prevent an incident from happening. They say that systems need to incorporate the parents more because they will be with the kids when they are more open and away from school.

Perhaps one of the most important parts of a school system is policies that it imposes on the students. In this paper the researchers writes about how the various laws and policies can prevent school violence. Relying on past research information he says that various security measures are necessary in creating a safe school. He says that systems that incorporate high security checks are successful and that it can prevent events such as school shootings.

In another study the researchers give several pieces of advice on preventing classroom violence. They theorize that if teachers have a more serious view on school violence and teach psychological containment methods the amount of school crime will decrease. The researchers also theorize that if you make the students more psychologically stable the amount of crime will decrease.

Through the work of these researchers I have concluded that in order to create a secure and safe system not only do you need a secure system inside school but also one outside school. A system that needs to incorporate the roles of parents,teachers, and students in a way so that everybody must look out for signs of danger and rely on each other to report possible problems that may lead to incidents. There is another factor that we cannot control that comes into play when this system is in place. Luck. It can easily prove to be the most important thing in avoiding or detecting an incident, because of this factor I conclude that there will never be a great system for preventing school crime because of the fact that luck cannot be controlled by any forces that we know of today.
