"Animals"
Pi is supposed to have survived more than 200 days on a lifeboat with a tiger. After telling his first story, the people don't believe him.Why? We as humans, believe that animals have no self control. In our minds, we would think that the tiger would've eaten him long ago. We think of animals on a lower level than ourselves while we classify ourselves, scientifically, as animals. When a person's actions are not acceptable within our society, we call them an animal. If you were to look from their point of view, we should be the ones on a lower level than them. Many packs of animals have more order than the way humans live. In our society, we're taught "everyone for themselves". If there were four people on the boat instead of four animals, Pi's story would've been believed, but if you think about it in a persective without bias - which is almost impossible among humans - the people would've killed each other. So who are really the "animals"?
Very interesting reflection, Ying. It reminds me of Planet of the Apes (the original with Charlton Heston; not the recent remake).
