Are Private School Students More Successful Than Public School Students?

         This article talks how the style of teaching relates to the motivation level of students. This is related to my question as motivation leads to how a students looks a a certain subject or course etc. The higher the motivation, the higher the chance of success. Mahbube Keihaniyan investigated numerous schools through surveys, tests, and displayed the information in various forms. The author concluded that private school students are more motivated in school as the teaching style is base on the students and not the teachers.

ANDREW J.C. (2009) Comparing Public, Private, and Market Schools: The International Evidence, Journal of School Choice, Vol. 3 Issue 1, p31-54, 24p

         Andrew J.C. investigated about whether schools that costed money was better than free publicly funded ones. After conducting numerous experiments and assessing years of international research, Andrew concluded that schools that costed money had much better education than free schools. This relates to my question as the quality of education is a big factor on success in education.

Hyunjoon P. Soo-yong B. & Kyung-keun K. (2011) Parental Involvement and Students’ Cognitive Outcomes in Korea: Focusing on Private Tutoring, Sociology of Education, Vol. 84 Issue 1, p3-22, 20p

         This article compares the effectiveness of private and public tutoring and investigates how parental involvement in a child's education would affect the outcome. These 3 authors investigated 7th graders over a term of 2 years and observed the effectiveness of the parents monitoring their child's education. They concluded that private tutored students achieved a higher mark in English and Math compared to their public counterparts. They also concluded that parents collaborating with the tutors also played a big part in the results.

         

Jaap D. & Silvia A. (2010) A cross-national analysis of the relations of school choice and

effectiveness differences between private-dependent and public schools, Educational Research & Evaluation, Vol. 16 Issue 2, p151-175, 25p

         Jaap and Silvia compared the results of private and public students from 26 countries around the world. They concluded that private schools had an overall higher rating than public schools. Though this is true, they also stated that it mostly depended on your location as different religions and ethnics may result in different motives. Despite the fact that private school students performed lower than public schools in some countries, the parents still preferred to send their kids to private institutes. This answered my question as it stated that it depends on the location of the private schools.

         This article focuses on the effectiveness of ESL programs in both public and private schools. Their conclusion was that public schools are slightly better but since there was not enough research, they are afraid to make it final. This relates to my questions as lots of immigrants are coming to the western continents, English is a very important subject and is the core behind a students success in modern society.
