i don't think so because firstly there is so little evidence and so many contradictions to these theories that the thought of the world ending then is kind of a joke to some. pastor pat robertson i think, said that the world will end in the 21st of may 2011 and look at us here, celebrating the new year of 2012!
the mayans (who would leave out the mayans?), with their hi-tech equipment said that the gregorian calendar will end in 2012. then Roland Emmerich got interested and made an "epic" thriller called 2012.
as for the woman who "telepathically" recieved messages from aliens saying the world will smash into the planet Nibiru first in 2003 then 2012, i do not think the information was satisfyingly accurate.if the planet is less than a year away, can we not see it with merely the cheapest of telescopes? if we can see things billions of light years away, why can't we see this planet?
solar flares don't threaten to destroy the earth, just knock out electricity for several months at most. anyways, solar flares don't always reach the earth, and they are expected in 2013 or early 2014 (no comments made were meant to offend anyone)
Well I think it can go either way. The Mayans were very accurate in astronomy and lived a very advanced civilization. They found out that there was another side of the moon and carved a complete replica of it and hung it on their doors. Also, people say that the Mesopotamian invented the wheel, well there was evidence that the Mayans made wheels for their toys. I don't think scientist should doubt the Mayans. As you know we are constantly learning from our past. As for the planet Nibiru, scientist have stated that we can see it with our naked eyes from the southern hemisphere.
Then again, there were a lot of false predictions on when the world is going to end (such as 2003 and yes May 2011) where there were similar hypotheses to the one that the princess of Japan made. Such as the aliens called Zetas communicating with various people, asteroids crashing on earth, stopping electricity, and even stopping the earth's orbit, but they were all wrong.
I personally think that 2012 will not happen, not because scientist have proven that it won't, but because there were simply too many similar instances where these people were proven wrong. On the other hand, I think the Japanese princess still made some good points. Human moral standards have declined and we should start to "purify" ourselves. These days, there is war, violence, murders, rapes and the like. The world is filled with poverty and vulgar things. A lot of entertainment are filled with class struggle, people fighting here and there, a lot of culture is lost and forgotten. We should start thinking for others and be kind to each other, we should not swear or fight for personal gain. If we really conduct ourselves with such a high moral standard, think about it, will we really be afraid of these rumours? There will be no reason to as the earth will be peaceful and harmonious. Actually there won't be any rumors.
If you do some actual research on the topic there is no planet alignment in the next few decades. The Mayan calender does not end in 2012, a countdown basically ends in 2012 and after the countdown is over another one takes its place. The Mayans might have been advanced back in their time but one cannot replace technology so easily. Their theories are still flawed and as for the invention of the wheel, I wouldn't pay too much attention to that as you would just need some logic to invent it.
The Earth will never be peaceful and harmonious. That is simply not who we are and there is no point trying to change thousands of years of evolution in order to make what we believe is an 'utopia. We would literally have to reteach the world a different nature and that still wouldn't work because humans are intelligent and eventually one of us will start questioning peace and soon enough somebody is going to find about violence and the world will be thrown into chaos once again. Instead of trying to create an 'utopia' we might as well try to model the world after systems that have been somewhat successful and focus on developing what we have right now into something that is better in the future.
